A worthy read - Governments might be the only way to fight this
I read this great article as part of my job. Side note: I love pleasure reading that is also job related.
In this article, which is part of a mounting set of evidence I'm collecting, the solution to obesity will not be a silver bullet; it's going to take coordinated efforts from institutions with the mandates to overcome major, entrenched market forces and reshape the very landscape we live in. I'd love to be part of that solution.

Pillars of the Earth
I just finished Ken Follett's epic (tome?) called "Pillars of the Earth." It was like a gigantic soap opera on the one hand, an overly-adorned Chekhov play on the other, but in the end peaked at about page 500 and should have quite by about 600. Enjoyable, yes, but imminently skim-able.
The biggest lesson I had reinforced in this book, though, is that you don't change that much unless something makes you. Be it an exile to Spain or France, a betrayal, a rape, firestorm... something has to break before it can change and be rebuilt.
Further proof that it is through creative destruction that the world reforms stronger and better.

Moments of true happiness...
A few or my favorite things...
- A morning jog on the beach at sunrise
- Being really really muddy
- Laughing uncontrollably, especially during movies and especially with other people
- Starting campfires with just one match
- Grease fires (and spitting bourbon into grease fires - double tap!)
- Watching kids learn to talk
- Watching babies laugh
